hola, el lunes

Yes, it's Monday again. The weeks seem to fly by - only six more Mondays until Christmas, for goodness sakes! As you probably have noticed, time has been flying by too quickly for me to post. Part of it is a limited amount of time, thanks to NaNoWriMo and school. But another part is that I feel so substandard. My words are not as beautiful as other bloggers'. My words are just that, plain words, with no substance behind them, no thoughts invoked. Or at least that's how I feel. I need to learn that even though my words may not be as eloquent as someone else's, they are my words, and that makes them special. So I am going to post my words. They will not sit in drafts on my computer. No matter how silly or thoughtless they seem, I am going to let you read them, because they are mine. Deal?

Because it is Monday, it's time for some miscellany!

001. The rain is pattering on my window, dulling the autumn leaves but leaving sparkling reflections in every droplet. Some people would call this a dreary day - cold, windy, and rainy - but I call it beautiful. Days like this remind me of the coziness of a fire, the warmth of wool blankets, and the comfort of home. I cannot be outside today, but I can be inside, and that is lovely too.

002. Words, I am surrounded by words. In the morning I wake up and write essays, in the afternoon I settle in and write my novel, and in the evening I draft blog posts. Just twenty-six letters strung together in different combinations, words are, but their real beauty is the emotions and feelings they invoke. Love is a short word, simple to pronounce and spell, but the meaning behind it is so grand and infinite that it can hardly be summed up in a sentence, much less a single word. That is why it is my favorite word. Love. What is your favorite word, and why?

003. My mom and I bought a new camera last week. I don't need to tell you that I'm excited. The moments it captures are so crisp, so clear, so real; I can hardly believe it. Many times I've snapped a photo of my little sister, only to look at the photo later and see something in it that I did not see initially, something that I've never seen before.

     ' "Things don't look the same through the camera," I said. "Not the way they are in real life."
     Putting the camera around his neck, he paused, then straightened.
     "Sometimes." He tilted his head to one side and spoke to himself in the mirror. "And sometimes pictures show us what is really there."
     "How? How can that be?" I asked.
     Grandfather lifted his shoulders in a familiar way, then said something unlike him.
     "I don't know, Journey. Maybe that is why people take pictures. To see what is there." '
